Next Walk Day Saturday 18th October - Barley

The A walk will be led by Andrew and Sue Holden and is a circular from Barley. Heading east out of Barley through Boothman Wood before turning west passing Black Rock and Barley Fold.  Care needed crossing Cross Lane to walk alongside Lower, then Upper Ogden reservoirs.  Crossing the dam climb to Driver Height.  From here head west over Spence Moor, Deerstones and Badger Wells Hill. After crossing Hawcroft Brook climb to Pendle Moor and continue onto Pendle Hill and The Beacon.  From the summit continue south to descend via a track to Pendle House joining the Pendle Way into Barley. 10 miles 1700 feet of ascent. Expected to be wet and muddy in many places. Welcome to the winter programme.


The B walk will be led by Linda Mills and is a circular from Barley. We cross the road and make our way to Ogden lower reservoir, ascending to Far Banks, Driver Heights, Spence Moor, then down to Deerstones to join the Ribble Valley Jubilee Trail. We follow the route along Ogden Clough to Beacon or Big End then turn to descend to Pendle Side.  Crossing Barley Lane we proceed to Windy Harbour Farm to Lower Black Moss Reservoir and Overhouses Farm into Barley. 8 miles and 1,563 ft.


Pendle Sculpture Trail C Walk led by Ros Beetham. From the main car park in Barley we walk along a footpath in an easterly direction towards Whitehough Outdoor Centre. Before reaching here we make a short diversion off the path for our first coffee stop in woodland. We then retrace our steps and continue onwards past the Outdoor centre, before making an ascent in a north easterly direction until we reach Stang Top Road. We walk along here until we reach a junction and here we turn left along Black Moss Road for quite some distance until we reach a footpath sign on our left just as the road turns right. We follow this path in a southerly direction, crossing a ford just before Salt Pie farm. We continue on passing to the right of here, eventually walking though Foot House gate. We then make our ascent up to the Sculpture trail, eventually retracing our path to return to the main path walking alongside Lower Black moss reservoir and back into Barley. Distance 5 miles  Elevation 800 feet.


PICKUP TIME: All walks have a pickup time of 9 am from Torrisholme Church of the Ascension, Torrisholme. (The coach commences pickups from Heysham Towers at 8.45 am).
