Next Walk Day Saturday 13th December - Hale (Xmas Walk)

The A walk will be led by Ginny Watts. The walk begins in Warton by the George Washington public house. We climb Warton Crag to the highest point on our walk 163mts/ 543ft.  We make our way down to Occupation Lane, and then to the Coach Road where we turn left towards Leighton Hall. We take the footpath to the view point over Leighton Hall, and then walk down past the hall, Home Farm and across Leighton Moss Reserve. We cross the road, and take the next footpath left to Red Bridge. We then head towards Hawes Water and West Coppice, East Coppice and Leighton Beck Bridge. We follow the road to Slack Head turning at Deepdale Farm, and then follow a path, skirting Marble Quarry towards Hale and the King's Arms. 8 miles and 1153ft accumulative ascent.

The B walk will be led by Colin Green. Start from the Pub at Hale. Cross the A6 and enter Hale Fell Woods, through the woods and Caravan Park to a minor road. Along minor road towards Slack Head and sharp left onto second minor road past High Cote estate on right. Right onto Bridleway towards Hazelslack. Round Hazelslack Farm to Hazelslack Tower where we can have lunch if anyone has any. From the Tower we go through Underlaid Wood to Fairy Steps and round Whin Scar to Slack Head. Along the Limestone Link and through Hale Woods back to Hale. 5.6 miles (9k) and about 600 feet (170 mtrs) of ascent.

Nadine is leading the C walk. The start of the walk is in Beetham.  We walk for a short distance along the River Bela then cross over to the other side via a foot bridge.  Then pick up a path going through the deer park and leaving to walk through fields and woodland to Haverbrack and Wray Cottage.  Leaving the woods there is a short road walk to pick up a woodland path with a gradual ascent through Underlaid Wood to arrive at the Fairy Steps.  We then make our way down to Slack Head. There's then a short road walk to pick up a path through Beetham Park with views over to the Howgill fells, ending at The Tavern at Hale.  The walk is a distance of 5.5 miles, an ascent of 380 feet, undulating and muddy in places and hopefully we'll see the herd of deer and ensure we keep a safe distance.

PICKUP TIME: All walks have a pickup time of 9 am from Torrisholme Church of the Ascension, Torrisholme. (The coach commences pickups from Heysham Towers at 8.45 am).
