The A walk will be led by Mark Perry. A linear walk, starting in Cockerham. We follow the A588 for a short distance to pick up a track across fields going through Little Crimbles and also Great Crimbles. From here we pick up the Lancashire Coastal Way (Gulf Lane). Still on the Lancashire Coastal Way we leave Gulf Lane and follow a track towards Moss house and then head back over fields to Pilling Hall. We then walk down Horse Park Lane and pick up the A588. We then have about 300 yards on this busy road until we arrive at Lane Ends Amenity Area. Staying on Backsands Lane until we arrive in Pilling Village. Here we leave the Lancashire Coastal Way for a walk across fields via Bonds Farm, Beech House and Old ridge. Coming back onto the Lancashire Coastal Way we then follow the sea defence wall into Knott End on Sea. Total distance 10.5 miles with 41feet of ascent. The field sections were very muddy on the recce hopefully the weather will dry up prior to our walk.
The B walk will be led by Catherine Maher. This is a linear walk from the Shard Bridge taking the path by the River Wyre to Hambleton, (boggy in places) then on lanes passing Wardley’s Pool, and onto Wardley’s Lane until we meet the Wyre Way passing Knott End Golf Club and into Knott End and the pub. It’s around 6.5 miles and for those wanting to go to one of the cafes it’s another 10 minute walk or so along the prom to Lancaster Road, to either Ralph’s, Mikes Kitchen or Dawn’s Tea Room.
The C walk will be led by Ros Beetham. We set off from Quail Holme Road car park, following the Wyre Way in an easterly direction for a short way, before heading inland following the edge of the golf course. We continue along a good path for some way before crossing the B 5377 at Ford Stones Bridge. From here we meander through a housing estate then turning right we walk a short distance along the B 5270 before turning left picking up various paths and a bridleway passing Tongues Farm and Proctors farm to eventually lead us to the Lancashire Coastal Way. Here we walk our return leg back to Knott End. 6 miles in distance, 11 metres elevation and no stiles.
