The A walk is a linear and will be led by Sally Cape and Elaine Welsh. Setting off from Laneshaw Bridge on School Lane crossing the river Laneshaw and turning onto Carriers Row. From here we will take the footpath that runs alongside Wycoller Beck until we pass through the village and past the remains of Wycoller Hall. We continue alongside the beck on Keighley Road through Smithy Clough towards Two Laws Road, before reaching the road we take the footpath alongside the road and down the side of Watersheddles Reservoir. We continue on the footpath dropping down to walk near Ponden Reservoir where we join the Pennine Way continuing up to the ruins at Withins. From here we drop down to Enfield Side Road and continue onto Bronte Bridge at the Bronte Waterfall and on towards Reservoir Road, which we cross and continue around Penistone Hill, finally dropping into Howarth. 11.5 Miles, 1700 Ft.
As noted above, currently there is no leader for the B walk, so no description available.
The C walk will be led by Sue Adam and Lynne Woodhead, and is based on The Railway Children Walk in and around Howarth. From the coach drop off we head downhill across Haworth Park, then the bridge across the railway line by Howarth Station. Turning left, then left again down Ebor Lane, we take the footpath alongside Bridgehouse Beck, to its end on the normally quiet Mytholmes Lane, and on to the nostalgic Oakworth Station. After our first break at the station, we will retrace our steps, this time keeping on the lane, which turns into a footpath over the beck and railway tunnel. Eventually the footpath turns back into a road, but after a short distance, we turn off left down Greenfield, then right onto another footpath across a large open field, from which we can admire the view across the valley. At the end we emerge onto Butt Lane, which we cross straight over into Haworth Park for our second break. This time we exit on the southern side of the park, and head down across the bridge to Brow Road, which we turn off almost immediately onto a footpath parallel to the beck and railway line, taking us all the way to the outskirts of Oxenholme. Following a third stop, we cross the beck and the railway track at an official crossing point, from where we can see down the line to Oxenhope Station's engine sheds and platform. The crossing is followed by a steep uphill path towards Marsh Lane, which we cross to find Old Oxenhope Lane and Bronte Way, the footpath back to Haworth. Reaching the summit (where again we pause to admire the view), we head straight on, until eventually we meet a dog-leg in the path, then pass just above the woods in which the coach park is situated. Eventually, we reach the Bronte Museum car park, where the walk will end, to explore local attractions at our leisure. Five and a half miles at most, total ascent 800 ft. No particular hazards, except the usual on roads and railway crossings. Footpaths may be muddy following rain, particularly by the beck, so boots required. Usual facilities in Haworth Park and Oakworth Station, Bronte Museum and car park (small charge, or free for patrons at Museum and Tea Hut at Oakworth Station). Drinks, snacks and sandwiches can be purchased, but own food is permitted at the Tea Hut. Route has been chosen to maximise stopping places for refreshments, in case of hot weather, and minimise road stretches. Route is mainly undulating, but 2 longer uphills will be taken with multiple breaks as required. Steam locomotives scheduled every 45 mins stopping at all stations. Oh, and the Ladies waiting Room at Oakworth Station is a treat (sorry gents!)
